From High Street in Campbeltown (Dalintober) go up the walk. At the left hand bend go through the gate on the right, then follow the hill 328ft (100 m) up to the stone. A climb to this fine cupmarked standing stone gives a good view over Campbeltown with Ben Ghullion rising behind. The monolith is 13ft (4 m) tall by about 5ft (1.5 m) wide and leans to the north and to the west.

St Ciaran’s Church and Kilkerran Castle

In ancient times, the centre of the town was probably located at the present-day village of Kilkerran. Here is a large cemetery including the remains of St Ciaran’s Church, established by the 13th century, an early Christian Cross, a 15th-century cross shaft and various interesting tombstones, the inscriptions on which tell in many ways the recent history of the town. Little if any survives of the nearby Kilkerran Castle, said to have been built in 1498 by James IV. There was a later castle in the centre of the town, long since disappeared and replaced by the Castlehill Church, now attractively refurbished as flats.

The Town or Mercat Cross, Main Street

Situated on an attractively laid out roundabout at the bottom of Main Street, facing the harbour is the Town Cross. One of the most superb pieces of mediaeval art in Scotland. A slender Celtic cross thought to date from the late 14th century. The cross was originally erected at Kilkivan Church, near Machrihanish, and the carving is of the Iona school (1330-1500). It is carved from a single slab, 10.8ft (3.3 m) high of blue-green schist.

Town House, Main Street (Town Hall)

One of Scotland's finest civic buildings, the Town House was designed by John Douglas (1758-1760) and is the main architectural focus in the town’s Main Street. The original spine was built of wood and was replaced with the present stone one in 1778 by John Brown a local builder. The clock and bell were installed in 1779.
