Machrihanish golf course is a golfing treasure and the opening hole - a 423-yard par-4 where the drive requires a carry over the Atlantic Ocean - is among the finest in the world. The course was voted 39th in a list of the 100 best golf courses outside of the USA in the May 2005 edition of the American magazine Golf Digest.

Weekdays: Round £40/£60 per day (Sundays the same)

Seabird and Wildlife Observatory -

The observatory is run by a local organization with much of the work being carried out by volunteers. This involves recording migrants and rarities and this has been responsible for the upgrade in status of many rare seabirds.

The observatory is open to the public and one of the main aims is to raise awareness of the birds and other animals from this unique location. You may see a large variety of birds and animals including: Red-Throated Diver, Grey Heron, Golden Eagle, Redshank. Otters. See the website for more information.
